TV Wrestling - Dec.22,1962 WFMY

I just received this piece of history from my friend,Mark Eastridge. This was a short-lived wrestling show on WFMY 2 in Greensboro,NC. I was so wrapped up in watching the Roanoke and Charlotte shows on Saturday evenings back then that I missed this one. In searching the tv listings I have available right now,the show was not on the WFMY schedule at the end of October 1962 and the last time it was on the schedule was Jan.12,1963. The other odd thing is that it was a 30 minute show. Now I wonder if the show was produced in the WFMY studios and how many weeks it was on the air. At any rate,this is a great find by Mark Eastridge. Many thanks to him for sharing this.

"I actually attended one of these tapings right around the time of this ad, maybe a few years later. I was five or six years old. I remember I was so frustrated because one of the cameraman was blocking my view of the monitor when they were showing a cartoon. I was so mad! That picture really brings back good memories. DB"

Championship Wrestling - May 17,1958

In 1958, WBTV in Charlotte,NC aired a live religion show at 12 noon each Saturday called "Parson's Answers." After that show completed, the studio had to be cleared so Jim Crockett's wrestling ring could be set up for his live 3:45 p.m. show. After finishing the show you can see from the ads here where some of the wrestlers appeared later that evening. Lexington,NC and Spartanburg,SC were the regular Saturday night towns at that time. Both towns were easy for the wrestlers to make after appearing on the tv show. If a third show was run that night,it was a spot town.

During the 1967/1968 tv season, Championship Wrestling on WGHP 8 in High Point, NC, moved to Friday night. The show returned to Saturday at 6:30 p.m. for the 1968/1969 season. That is Chief Little Eagle and one of the Infernos in the photos. Walter Buckner is the referee.Bobby Red Cloud and Chief Little Eagle wrestled Aldo Bogni and Bronko Lubich managed by Homer O'Dell on this Friday night telecast.

Scoop & Snoop -WHIS

In the area where I live near the NC,VA border,we were able to receive WHIS 6  from Bluefield,West Virginia. Scoop and Snoop would sit in their rocking chairs and were host to a variety of movies and tv shows over the years. My brothers and I would watch especially on the days they were featuring a Roy Rogers movie. The ad is from January 1967.

This is a group of newspaper ads that appeared between 1968 and 1974. Championship Wrestling was taped in the WGHP 8 studio which was located in the old Sheraton Hotel in High Point,NC. Charlie Harville was the host during the show's entire run from 1964 until 1974.
